8 injured as students, police clash in Bhopal

Bhopal, Jul 17: Three students and five policemen were injured when a clash broke out between them during a protest outside the residence of a state minister against an alleged slapping case. A number of students, led by state NSUI president Rashmi Pawar, had gathered outside Water Resources Minister Jayant Mallaiya”s residence to protest the slapping of a girl student allegedly by his wife Sudha Mallaiya, also a BJP leader, following an argument on the issue of violation of hostel rules.

During the protest the agitated students tried to enter the minister”s house following which police used force against them, Bhopal Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad said adding that few students and five policemen sustained injuries in the incident. Police have registered a complaint against the protesting students.
