7th Pineapple Fair cum Youth Festival held in Imphal

With the production of over 5490 MT of pineapples exceeding the last production of 3520 MT, the 7th Pineapple Fair-cum-Youth Festival 2014 has begun at the Yairipok Thambalnu market in Imphal.

The ten-day fair which started on Monday is being organised by Development Organization Andro Kendra under the sponsorship of Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States.

In all, 150 stalls of pineapples others 60 stalls and 47 snack stalls are being opened. Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar, Mr/ Th. Ratankumar Singh, Mission Director, Horticulture and Soil Conservation and Th Shyamkumar’s wife Th Babita were present in the opening function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam inaugurated the fair by unveiling a well designed rest shed made solely with pineapples amidst hundreds of cheering crowd. The unveiling of the rest shed also marked the kick-start of pineapple sales in around 160 stalls being opened at the fair.

The 7th Pineapple cum Youth Festival 2014 which kicked off from today will continue till July 8 at Yairipok Thambalnu. In the course of the festival, meritorious students residing within Andro A/C who scored outstanding marks in the Class X and Class XII exams of 2014 conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM would be felicitated on June 30.

The festival would also feature exhibition-boxing bouts for women.
