New Delhi: The Delhi University Teacher’s Association (DUTA) has urged the government to immediately approve the pay revision of the non-teaching employees of the Universities and the colleges.
At the same time, they have expressed apprehension about the long list of pay-related anomalies that had arisen from the previous pay revision.
DUTA has appealed to the government to release the Dearness Relief for pensioners at the earliest.
Yesterday, The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the revision of pay scales for about eight lakh teachers and other academic staff in higher educational institutions under the University Grants Commission (UGC) and in centrally funded technical institutions.
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the decision would benefit 7.58 lakh teachers and equivalent academic staff in 106 universities/colleges which are funded by UGC or HRD Ministry as also 329 universities funded by state governments and 12,912 government and private aided colleges affiliated to state universities.
He also said the revised pay package will also cover teachers of 119 centrally funded technical institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), Indian Institutes of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) etc.
The approved pay scales would be applicable from January 1, 2016.
The implementation of this pay revision will enhance the teachers` pay in the range of Rs 10,400 and Rs 49,800 as against the extant entry pay due to the implementation of the 6th Central Pay Commission for the pay of teachers.
This hike in pay is between 22 per cent to 28 per cent. The revised pay scale would cost about Rs 9,800 crore to the exchequer.
