Hyderabad: 79 tola gold was recovered under passenger’s seat in Air India flight that arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) from Jeddah on Tuesday. Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) sleuths of the customs department seized 79 tola gold concealed in the aircraft’s wall.
The suspect is a 25-year-old Delhi-based passenger, who boarded the Air India’s Jeddah-Hyderabad-Mumbai flight (AI 966). Four gold pieces weighing 79 tola were wrapped in a duct tape and were concealed in a cavity in the aircraft’s wall adjacent to the suspect’s seat.
Not finding any evidence that the gold was in possession of the passenger, he was let to continue his onward journey to Mumbai. After landing at the Mumbai airport, he told the customs officials that he had legally brought the gold which was seized by their counterparts in Hyderabad.
