Jeddah, December 07: 78 teams have been working each day since the beginning of the rains to spray some 20,000 liters of pesticide at targeted sites in Jeddah to combat Dengue fever.
Assistant Deputy Mayor of Jeddah and head of Crisis Management Mahmoud Kansara said that each municipality had been assigned seven teams along with 13 groups of specialists to spray private homes and areas of stagnant water, all working in shifts around the clock seven days per week.
“We have sprayed in the last three days over 3,000 homes,” Kansara said, adding that the complete eradication of the threat would require a total of three weeks from the beginning of the rains.
According to Kansara, 900 sites of water conglomeration in Jeddah had been identified and sprayed in the city, mostly in the municipal districts of Umm Al-Salam, Al-Junoub and Brayman. 500 mosquito entrapment sites have also been set up to monitor the growth and development of the insect and gauge the success of eradication campaign efforts.
