New Delhi, May 25: A youth was arrested on Friday for raping a 75-year-old homeless woman in northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram area.
According to police, the victim had been abandoned by her children several years ago and lived in a park in the Keshav Puram area. She lived on the food given to her by residents of the nearby locality. On Thursday night, Prahlad (22) went to the park and raped her. Police said the accused used to come to the park often to have drinks with his friends.
Cops said the victim was sleeping inside her makeshift shelter in the park on Thursday night. The accused forcibly took her to another corner of the park and raped her. Police said when the woman tried to resist, she was thrashed by the accused. “On Friday morning, some morning walkers found her lying in that corner,” said a senior police officer.
Police traced Prahlad and arrested him. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Meenu Chaudhary said Prahlad has been charged under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and has been sent to Tihar Jail. Prahlad and his mother sell flowers right opposite the park. Police is trying to locate the victim’s family.
