75 ultras surrender in AP dist

More than 75 militia members of Korukonda Area Dalam Committee voluntarily surrendered before the Visakhaptnam Rural police today. Addressing a press conference here, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Visakahapatnam Range) Dr Soumya Mishra said the 75 militia members, including eight well known members, surrendered voluntarily before police as they wanted to lead a normal life in future. She said the surrendered militia members assisted the outlawed CPI Maoists in committing various crimes like blasting of BSNL towers at Lambasinghi in November 2011, damaging and burning Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation field man quarters at Cherlapalli village in December last, assault on police party at Rallagedda village when the police party had gone to apprehend armed militia member on credible information in February this year.

The surrendered memebrs were from Rallagedda, Kappa Gondi, Mulakothuru and Gunjiveedhi villages of Chintapalli mandal in the agency area of the visakhpatnam district, she added. The government would rehabilitate them suitably to lead a normal life, she said. Some of the militia members including V Premsingh and V Gangaraju told media that they had participated in the illegal activities by force due to threat to life from the Maoists.

She said the police would not pursue the cases registered on the surrendered members as long as they led normal life without indulging in any illegal activities.
