700,000 Observing Itikaf across the Iran

Tehran, June 28: Hojat-ol-Islam Hossein Ebrahimi said that the number of those observing Itikaf in mosques in Tehran province shows a 15 percent rise compared to previous year.

He said in some provinces the demand for attending the religious ceremony exceeded the available spaces in mosques.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ebrahimi noted that Itikaf should be observed in a mosque at least for three consecutive days.

Since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, more and more people, especially youths, participate in this great event, he said.

Itikaf is a form of worship formed by staying in a mosque for a certain time. It is a tradition which has been in Islam from the first days of the revelation

The period of I’tikaf is the best time to force one’s self to sit and think and reflect on the self and the world around; to forget the worries of the transient world and to return to the soul and the Creator of the soul.
