A 5k/10k/21k Second edition “Run for Girl Child” was organised in city on Sunday by Seva Bharathi – Telangana to promote awareness about the program “Kishori Vikas” – Empowerment of Girl Child.
The Marathon was flagged off at the Gachibowli Stadium by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma, TRS MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, IG Prisons (Maharashtra) Lakshminarayana and BJP MLAs Dr. K. Lakshman and G. Kishan Reddy. State Finance minister Etala Rajender participated in the closing ceremony and gave awards to the winners.
Thousands of participants turned up inclement weather to participate in it, 5k/10k Run started from stadium to Central University passed through Central University and 21k Run started from stadium around area’s gowli doddi, Q-City and turned back to Gachibowli stadium. More than 7000 participants supported ‘Run for Girl Child’ campaign.
Corporates like GGK Technologies (title sponsors) Capgemini, Genpact, Thomson Reuters, Cotiviti, Avineon, ComVault, MedTronic, Hyderabad Industries Limited, Zolontech, TMR Group, Harsco, Value Momentum and many IT companies are participated. In addition, many families from Gated Communities are also participated. More than 400 beneficiaries of Kishori Vikas Program from Slums and low income areas of Greater Hyderabad joined the Run.
“This run is aimed at adding 400 Kishori Vikas Centers to the existing 100 centers run in various parts of Hyderabad. These centers empower Girl Children residing in Slums and Low Income areas by helping them in their Education, Health and Skill Development,” said Seva Bharathi General Secretary Raghunath Verabelli.
