The shocking rape case of a seven-year-old girl in the national capital evoked sharp criticism on Sunday, with DCW chief Swati Maliwal alleging that the victim was “denied” treatment for four hours at the AIIMS.
The girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on Friday by a juvenile living in her neighbourhood in south Delhi’s Tigri area, following which a case was registered and the accused was apprehended by the police. The incident comes days ahead of the third anniversary of the gruesome December 16 gangrape incident.
Visited 7 yr old girl raped in Del. She is in so much pain. Had to undergo 2 hr surgery. Wat shame. How many more Nirbhaya will Delhi have?
The Aam Aadmi Party also reacted strongly and expressed concern over the issue while assuring that all measures are being taken to ensure safety of women in the city.
“The girl is like our daughter and we want women to feel secure while travelling and measures like CCTV installation in buses and public areas are being taken up. DCW and DCPCR (Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights) are working to make environment safer for women,” senior AAP leader Kumar Vishwas told reporters.
Meanwhile, the mother of the victim claimed the police was not showing the face of the accused.
