Guntur, June 07: Seven persons were killed and three others injured in two road accidents in this district during the last 12 hours.
According to police, four people, including a woman and a six-year-old girl, were killed when they were crushed under the iron pipes after they boarded a iron-pipes laden lorry on the National Highway-5 at Atmakuru in Mangalagiri Mandal late last night.
The labourers hailed from Singarayyakonda in Prakasam District were proceeding to this district in search of work. The lorry was proceeding from Kanigiri in Prakasam District to Vijayawada.
The accident occurred when the victims were sitting between the lorry cabin and the iron pipes on the top of the lorry. After the lorry driver applied sudden brake, the iron pipes, all of a sudden crushed the four to death. The police had a tough time in retreiving the bodies which were late sent to Mangalagiri Government Hospital for post-mortem, police added.
The lorry driver was at large.
