A minor’s alleged rape by two Bodo youths today lead to a clash between locals and police, injuring two policemen and others in Baksa district, officials said. The girl was allegedly raped when she was on way to bathe in the river, police said, adding the two youths fled thereafter.
The irate locals then set fire to several houses at Uttar Harijora village of Goreswar sub-division. Police rushed to the spot and in the clash that ensued between the two sides, two senior police officials — sub divisional officer of Tamulpur, Abdul Sammad Hussain and deputy sub divisional officer Tez Prasad Bhusal — were injured. Five other persons received minor injuries, they said. Three police vehicles were also damaged by the mob.
Police then resorted to lathicharge and firing in the air to contain the situation and disperse the mob, the officials said. Army and paramilitary forces were later deployed in the area as tension prevailed, police added.
