7 die as fire engulfs building in Central China

Beijing, December 23: Seven people, including four women and 6 others injured when a fire broke out at a building in a crowded shopping street near Changsha of Hunan Province in Central China.

The fire that charred upto three stories of the five-story commercial and residential building in Yunyang Commercial Street broke yesterday morning at the township, 200 kms from Changsha.

The blaze was brought under control two hours later before it spread to nearby residential buildings, Xinhua news agency quoted a government official as saying.

The fire reportedly broke out in the first floor and as per witness accounts, people were seen jumping from the third floor.

An eight-year-old child was one of the three males and four females who died in the fire. Five lost life at the spot and two died in hospital, said Wang Youwen, head of the general office of the county government.
