7 arrested in hooch tragedy, authorities order probes

Varanasi, April 05: Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the hooch tragedy which took place here and in Bhadoi district as authorities today ordered probes into the incident.

Varanasi District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar and Bhadoi DM Surendra Singh ordered Magisterial inquiries into the tragedy in which 10 people died after consuming spurious liquor.

The inquiries will be completed within 15 days.

ADG (law and order) Brijlal told PTI that seven persons have been arrested in both the districts so far and the police are continuing with raids against absconding main accused Bhagwat Singh and Rajesh Singh, close relatives of Mafia don Brajesh Singh.

A huge quantity of spurious liquor has also been seized.

Brijlal said nine officials, including two police station officers and a police post incharge, have been suspended in connection with the incident.

He said four people died in Shivdaspur village in this district while six others succumbed in adjoining Bhadoi.
