London: A major earthquake of magnitude of 7.6 struck about 535 kilometres south-east of the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Friday, the United States Geological Survey said.
There were no initial reports of casualties or damage, reports the Guardian.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a temporary warning for areas close to the quake. However, there was no Pacific-wide threat of a tsunami.
Initially the quake was given a magnitude of 7.6 but later downgraded. (ANI)
