Jakarta, April 04: An earthquake with the magnitude of 6.7 has struck south of Java Island in Indonesia, the US Geological Survey (USGS) says.
Indonesian seismologists say a tsunami alert has been issued, AFP reported on Sunday.
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 20:06:42 GMT, 277 kilometers south of Tasikmalaya in West Java, was 24 kilometers (15 miles) underground, the USGS said.
Indonesia’s Meteorology and Geophysics Agency has said the quake could create a tsunami while the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre stated there was “very small possibility of a local tsunami.”
