Expecting more need for power in future due to increasing demand from agriculture and domestic sectors in the state, the Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to purchase 2,000 MW from June 2012 to May 2016. State Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Laxmaiah, on behalf of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, today informed the Assembly during the short disucussions on ‘Power supply situation in the state’that despite all the constraints, the government is fully committed to protect the interest of all the sections of the society, particularly the farmers, by giving them quality and reliable seven hours free supply of electricity. In his statement, which was circulated in the House , the Minister said the energy deficit in the state during the current year was 6.2 per cent as compared to all India average deficit of 8.1 per cent and a peak demand of 283 MU per day , the second highest in the country, was registered in the state between March 2011 to February,2012.
