Hyderabad: According to a research study carried out by a scholar belonging to the Dept. of Sociology, Kakatiya University, 61.29% of the women prisoners of central jail, chanchalguda are the victims of dowry harassment.
The survey report also revealed that 96% of them had their monthly income below 10,000. Most of the women prisoners started that their mothers in-law were harassing them because they were earning less income. They had demanded to get more dowry amount from their parents for purchasing a pot of land or a house.
Out of them 72.35% women were illiterate and 25.70% had their education less than matriculation.
