60-yr-old Shaikh Mohammed walks 35 kms daily to earn livelihood

60-year-old Shaikh Mohammed works hard to earn livelihood. He hails from Bider, Karnataka. Son of a farmer Shaikh Mohammed shifted to Hyderabad in the year 1972. After settling in Hyderabad he started working as a porter and continued it for 20 years. But a day came when he fell down while lifting the luggage. His feet got hurt. Since then he left that work.

But since he had to bring up 6 sons and a daughter he decided to do some light work. Since then he has been selling snacks like chips, murkul, biscuit, chocolate etc. on the bicycle. He buys the items from Begum Bazar and sells to the shop owners in old city. He told that he walks 35 kms per day to supply eatables. He earns Rs. 250 per day.

Surprisingly by the grace of Allah he has also done Umra with these meagre earnings. He gets engaged into his work after Fajr prayers. One of his sons is doing B.Com while another is in 8th class. Daughter has done SSC. He says In Sha Allah ‘I will strive hard to fulfil my responsibilities till my last breath.’
