6 killed in US drone strike in Pakistan

Islamabad, October 01: US drones launched fresh strikes in Pakistan’s lawless tribal belt killing six militants and wounding two others on Wednesday, the third such strike on the Taliban and Al-Qaeda stronghold in 24 hours.

Unmanned drone fired two missiles at two vehicles at Naurak, a village located along the road connecting Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan Agency, and Mir Ali, another key town in the region.

Witnesses said the militants travelling in the two vehicles were killed in the attack.

Pakistan TV channels said the drones were still circling both south and north Waziristan till late in the evening.

It was not immediately clear if there was any high-value target hit in the fresh drone attacks.

The new attack came after two strikes on Tuesday which killed 15 militants including Taliban’s new chief Hakimullah Mehsud’s brother.

Several Uzbek and Afghan militants were also killed in the two attacks.

The attacks came as US President Barack Obama chaired a key meeting in the White House of his top security advisers to decide on whether to send more troops to Afghanistan or to augment drone strikes on Al qaeda and Taliban terrorists hiding in tribal belt between Afghanistan and Pakistan
