6 die in Mahashivratri fair stamped in Junagarh

t least six people were confirmed dead and several others injured in a stampede that took place at a Mahashivratri fair in Junagarh, Gujarat. The annual fair was being held at the Bhavnath temple, on the outskirts of Junagarh city.
The incident happened at around 9 pm on Sunday. According to police, the stampede occurred following panic after the brakes of a four-wheeler at the fair venue apparently failed.

The dead comprised three women, two children and one man. Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to a hospital. Ambulance personnel said they were finding it difficult to take the injured because of traffic jams at the road leading to the temple.

Tens of thousands of devotees had gathered at the popular fair which will conclude on the occasion of Mahashivratri festival on Monday. Bhavnath is an important Shiva temple.
