6.8-magnitude quake hits off Solomon Islands: USGS

Sydney: A 6.8-magnitude quake struck off the Solomon Islands late today, the US Geological Survey said, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The tremor struck 119 kilometres (73 miles) southwest of Dadali in the Pacific Solomon Islands at 2:31 AM local time (18:31 GMT).

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said no tsunami warnings were in effect.
