5.9 quake strikes Japan

Tokyo, March 19: A magnitude 5.9 earthquake has struck off the east coast of Honshu, Japan.

The quake jolted Honshu city at 10:22 a.m. Tokyo time (0122 GMT) on Saturday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) announced.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was monitored at 39.7 degrees north latitude and 143.1 degrees east longitude,

Meanwhile, early in the morning, rescue workers rescued a man trapped under the rubble of a partially collapsed house in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture, eight days after a massive earthquake and tsunami hit Japan’s eastern coast that has claimed the lives of at least 7,197 people. At least 10,905 others are still unaccounted for.
