Vishakhapatnam which is at a distance of 630 kilometers from Hyderabad. It is an important and historical place in Andhra Pradesh. It also assumed great importance during the period of Ashoka the great, Qutub Shahi, Moghal and Asif Jahi dynasties and even during British rule. It houses crores of rupees of Waqf properties. As per the gazette details Vishakhapatnam has 5667 acre Waqf land. It houses 37 masajid, 4 large Eidgahs, 5 big dargahs.
When the Waqf survey was done for the first time in 1985, it mentioned the number of masajid; however how much land was endowed under each masjid was not mentioned. Hence now that N Chandra Babu Naidu has taken charge as the new chief minister a fresh survey is inevitable. After the bifurcation of the state it is high time that the protection of Waqf properties worth thousands of crore of rupees is ensured and the revenue is spent for the welfare of Muslims.
Multinational companies have an eye on these precious waqf properties hence the protection of valuable Waqf lands is the need of the hour.
