Jagdish Singh,55 and his younger son Dharmender, 20, from dalit community were attacked by half a dozen men at Kambakshpur village. Jagdish Singh was brutally killed and his son was critically injured.
The incident occurred when when the duo were on their way to the district court to seek legal aid over the land dispute which is stated to be around 3.5 bigahs.
This incident also triggered a violent protest. The protestors tried to block the Noida-Greater Noida expressway by placing the body over the road which also led to long traffic snarls.
The police rushed the spot immediately and tried to resort to firing in air to disperse the mob and registered the case at the Knowledge Park police station. The expressway was cleared after 45 minutes.
One of the deceased neighbour Mr.Prem Chand, said. “As they left the village at about 7.30 am, 6-7 men from the Gurjar community, who were having a decade old rivalry with Jagdish, attacked them. They had blocked the road using a tractor. The father-son duo tried to flee leaving their bike behind, but they were overpowered and attacked with sharp edged weapons.”
He also said that the duo were lying in a pool of blood on the road. The villagers immediately informed the police and family members.
Dharmender was rushed to the Yatharth hospital where he is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU).
Bhola the relative of the deceased said. “Jagdish had demanded police protection as he was fighting a legal battle with the neighbours for a piece of land and he was often threatened and thrashed. But he never backed down and continued to fight the case for over 20 years.”
Abhishek Yadav, the superintendent of police (rural),Gautam Budh Nagar said “Further, a company of provincial armed constabulary (PAC) has been deployed in the village to maintain law and order. Also, reserved riot control police has been deployed near the village on stand by.”
He added.“The victim’s body was sent for postmortem, reports of which are awaited. It seems like he died after his throat was slit with some sharp object.”
Jagdish body is sent for the autopsy. The relatives of the deceased accused police of inaction and demanded immediate arrest of the accused persons. Police is waiting for the statement of victim’s son to get name of the assailants.
The senior superintendent of police Kiran S said, “The matter is under investigation. Whatever accusations the deceased’s family has made, will be thoroughly checked.”
