55 teachers arrested, later arrested

Kapurthala, October 25: Police today arrested 55 ETT teachers including 31 women, who were staging dharna outside the residence of education minister Upinderjit Kaur here.

SSP Ram Singh said arrested teachers, who were demanding regularisation of their services were released in the evening.

More than 3,000 teachers under the banner of Democratic teachers front today held a rally at a garden here to protest against the wrong policies of education and misbehaviour with the teachers allegedly by Director General School Education by slapping unnecessary suspensions.

They took out a protest march in bazaars of the town, but were stopped by police near Shiv Mandir chowk and not allowed to proceed towards the residence of Kaur. Later they handed over a memorandum to SDM Tanu Kashyap.
