A delegation of 51 IAS Officers from 18 other States visited the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as a part of study tour with regard to various civic related issues and developmental activities.
Interacting with the delegation, GHMC Commissioner & Special Officer Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that there around 7,000 Municipal Corporations and Municipalities across the country and the main issue for all of them is Solid Waste Management. He also gave a power point presentation with regard to Revenue collections, Solid Waste Management and various other civic issues. He said that the corporations need to generate their own revenues to provide civic amenities as the respective State Governments were not able to provide more funds.
Ratan Lahoti, Senior IAS Officer from Rajasthan State and Team leader of the visiting delegates, has praised the efforts being made by the GHMC with regard to solid waste management. He also appreciated other innovative schemes taken up by the GHMC and said they must be emulated by other municipal corporations in the country. (INN)
