Hyderabad, September 16: The Minister for Higher Education, Mr D. Sridhar Babu, on Thursday announced that 500 lecturers for government degree colleges would be recruited on contract basis through the Higher Education department during this academic year.
Speaking to mediapersons after the Chief Minister’s review meeting on Higher Education in the Secretariat, Mr Sridhar Babu said that the newly formed universities and degree colleges were facing problems due to lack of sufficient teaching and non-teaching staff. When the delay in recruitment of lecturers for degree colleges through the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) was brought to his notice, the Chief Minister directed the officials to examine the possibilities to complete the recruitment process at the earliest.
Though 1,600 contract lecturers were recruited, inadequate staff problem was haunting many new colleges, he added. Keepining this in mind, the Chief Minister endorsed the proposal for recruitment of 500 lecturers for degree colleges on contract basis through Higher Education department, he maintained.
The Minister said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) came forward to extend Rs 5 crores for the new 10 universities in the State. The Chief Minister also agreed to release additional Rs five crores as a matching grant to them. He felt that it would increase the initial capital investment to the universities.
Replying to a query on the piracy of Telugu Academy books, Mr Sridhar Babu said that the piracy of Telugu Academy books was exposed in Tirupati last year. “The recent case of piracy of Telugu Academy books came to light when the authorities inquired into the reasons for the shortfall in the sale of books this year”, he added.
The Telugu Academy Director explained the matter to the Chief Minister at the review meeting. The Chief Minister directed him to take stern action against those violated the law, he added.
On the agitation of Telangana lawyers, the Minister opined that agitations should not be launched for politics. Every person has right to express his or her protest, but should not create law and order problem. The Chief Minister has already appointed a committee with three ministers to examine any injustice was meted out to Telangana in the nominated legal posts.
