50 yrs of neglect : Will old city remain slums forever?

Contaminated water, overflowing drainages, defective pipelines, battered roads and garbage piles here and there… these are the major problems of old city. The tragedy is that, thanks to the hollow claims and lip services of old city leadership these issues persist as a headache for the old city residents. On one side the government is making all efforts to uplift Hyderabad to the rank of world best cities; on the other side there is hardly any locality in the old city where proper roads have been laid, where there are no potholes on the roads which are filled with dirty water, where garbage bin is regularly cleaned.

Surprisingly every government releases crores of rupees as developmental package for the development of old city; after which the public representatives set up tablets of their name on every corner of the lanes and crossroads in every locality, but the basic municipal problems remain as they are.

Majority of the public now raises the question ‘why the political party, which has been leading the old city for 50 long years, couldn’t give a facelift to the old city during such a long period? Will old city will remain old city forever? Where the crores of rupees released for developmental works are going?
