Hyderabad, August 19: The Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, has declared that his government was keen on bringing about women’s empowerment. Towards this end, he would discuss the issue of providing 50 per cent reservation to the women in local body elections, in the next Cabinet meeting, he added.
Addressing the party women public representatives’ meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, the Chief Minister asserted that the Congress was the only party that was concentrating on women’s issues. Stating that the AICC chief and UPA Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, was keen improving the lot of women, Mr Rosaiah said that the Congress would solve the women’s problems on priority as the biggest party in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, the PCC Chief, Mr D Srinivas, said that Ms Sonia Gandhi was firm on earmarking 50 per cent reservations to the women in the legislative bodies. He also said that the PCC would extend total support to the proposal.
