50 more libraries in government schools

Vijayawada, April 04: The Basic Research Education And Development (BREAD), an NGO set up byProf Nagulapalli Bhaskar Rao of Centre for Media Studies, New Delhi, will set up 50 more libraries in government schools across the state.

BREAD has been extending financial support to poor students to continue their studies since its formation in 1980. It has already set up 140 libraries in government schools across the state.

Speaking to presspersons here today, BREAD city secretary Kakani Rammohana Rao said the government schools which got more than six National Merit cum Means Scholarships (NMMS) for their students are eligible to approach the NGO seeking setting up of libraries in their institutions. If more than 50 eligible schools approach BREAD, it is ready to increase number of libraries.

It will set up each library at a cost of `20,000. The NGO is also providing scholarships to students from KG to PG. The schools in which BREAD set up libraries, should plant 50 saplings on their premises to promote afforestation. It is also promoting environmental awareness among schoolchildren. To promote reading habit among students, it will announce prizes for students who read more books. The NGO is being run with aid of donors. It will set up libraries in the name of donors if anyone donates the amount required for it, he said.
