Rajahmundry (AP): A five-year-old girl sustained burn injuries when she was forced to sit on a hot slide at her school’s playground in Venkatapuram village on Monday. Her fault: She had soiled her clothes at her classroom. Infuriated by this, her teacher had her clothes removed and made her sit on the slide under the scorching sun.
The girl suffered burns on her back and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Her father Mallikarjuna Rao, a small-time businessman, complained to the Eluru rural police. A case under sections 325 and 341 of the IPC and Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act has been registered against the school’s principal Dhanalakshmi and the teacher in question, Anjana Devi.
Eluru DSP KGV Saritha told TOI that an inquiry was conducted in the school by the district child protection officer, the mandal education officer, the local revenue officer and the SHO on Tuesday.
The school authorities, however, claimed that the child got onto the iron slide “by accident” and it was not punishment.
