5 vehicle lifters arrested in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: With the arrest of five people in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Kathua district, the police today claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of vehicle lifters and recovered 26 motorcycles.

Following complaints of lifting of two-wheelers in Kathua, the police picked up some suspects and after quizzing them arrested five people, an officer said.

Those arrested included two from Punjab and three from Kathua district. During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the crimes, he said, adding 26 motorcycles were recovered from them.

For the last few months, there were lot of reports about motorcycle theft in Kathua, the police officer said.

Soon after stealing the motorcycles, the accused used to replace the number plates with fake ones to escape checkpoints and then take those to Punjab, he said.

“Since the investigation is at an initial stage, some more arrests are expected,” the police officer said.
