Five members of a family, including a woman, were injured in the Burdwan District Court compound after being issued bail bonds today.
Police said the five were attacked by the rival group, allegedly belonging to the in-laws’ family of one Yasmin
Begum, with sharp-edged weapons, as they were coming out after collecting the bond papers.
Of the five, four were taken to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. While one of them was Jasmin Khatoon,
sister of Yasmin, the other injured included her brothers.
Police said Yasmin’s husband Lokman had been named by her along with some other members of the in-laws’ family as
accused in dowry, rioting, domestic torture cases while Lokman in-turn filed cases against her, and five of her parent’s household.
As both sides were issued bail bonds today, one group, allegedly from Lokman’s side, attacked the other with knives
injuring five.
The Burdwan Bar Association has condemned the incident and demanded full proof security in the court compound for the lawyers, judges, other visitors as well as accused.
No arrests could be made in this regard so far.
