5 maternal deaths: Niloufer Hospital RMO, Superintendent shunted

Hyderabad: Following five maternal deaths at the state run Niloufer Hospital recently, state government transferred RMO of Niloufer Hospital Usharani and Superintendent Suresh Kumar on Friday evening. Five women had died after undergoing Caesarian section surgeries at the hospital. Within a span of three to four days, five women died due to uncontrolled bleeding. Special Chief Secretary, Health, Medical and Family Welfare, Rajeshwar Tiwari, issued an order on Friday evening to this effect.

The GO stated ‘there is prima facie negligence on the part of Dr. Suresh Kumar and Dr. K. Usha Rani’.

However the report of the team led by Hyderabad District Collector, Rahul Bojja, is yet to be submitted. Following the deaths the operation theatres have been shut down.

Meanwhile Dr Sailaja has been appointed new Superintendent. She is expected to take charge on Saturday.
