Five persons were killed on the spot while six others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a jeep and a mini-truck on the national highway in Patan district in north Gujarat this evening, police said.
The mishap took place at Sinad village in Radhanpur tehsil. While the jeep was heading for Rajasthan, the truck was coming from the wrong side on the highway, said inspector R P Zala.
A Rajasthan-based family had hired the jeep to visit pilgrimage sites in Gujarat and was on its way back when the mishap took place.
The deceased, yet to be identified, included two women and three men, while the injured included two women and four men who were rushed to a hospital at Dharpur.
Two of them were in a critical condition, Zala said.
The truck driver fled, abandoning the truck on the spot.
Further probe is on, police said.
