5 killed in Pakistan violence

Karachi, April 08: At least five people have been killed and 17 others wounded in a spate of violence in Pakistan amid deteriorating security situation.

A man was killed and 15 other people were injured when some motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade at people near Rainbow Center in the southern port city of Karachi late Thursday,

In a separate incident, a man was killed when unidentified individuals threw a hand grenade into a shop in Queta, a city in the southwest Baluchistan province.

Meanwhile, Taliban militants in Waziristan tribal region killed three people on charges of spying for the United States.

The victims, gone missing for a few days and apparently kidnapped by the Taliban militants, were decapitated and their bodies were left along a road in Miranshah, southern Waziristan’s main city.

In another incident, two policemen were injured when a remote-controlled bomb went off near their van in Peshawar.

The Pakistani government has rejected a proposal for negotiations and a ceasefire by the Taliban, saying militants should disarm before any talks can be held.

In a recent report, the United Stated has said that the Pakistani government has failed to do enough to fight militancy in the country.

However, Islamabad has rejected the report, insisting that Pakistan is using its full strength against the militants.
