Five persons were killed on the spot and as many injured when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling from Chollangi to Kothur collided with a tipper coming from Yanam to Kakinada on the national highway, 25 km from from here, today.
Kakinada Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sai Sri who rushed to the spot told UNI that all the victims were fishermen from neighbouring villages.
She said the injured had been admitted to Kakinada Government General Hospital (GGH) where the condition of one them was stated to be critical. The Korangi police have registered a case and shifted the bodies to GGH for postmortem. SP Dr C Trivikram Varma and RDO Kishore Kumar visited the hospital and enquired the condition of the injured. Police gave the names of the deceased as Dantikodu Varalakshmi (50), Koppada Seshamma (45), Balasadi Veerababu (40), Perni Nagamani (38) and Dantikodu Nagamani and the injured as Karri Lakshmi(28) Dantikodu Mahalakshmi (35) Palika Apparao(34), Cholla Sunil(32) and Ponnamanda Rambabu (36).
