5 Israeli missiles intercepted by Syrian air defence

Damascus: Syrian air defence systems on Tuesday intercepted five missiles fired by Israeli fighter jets targeting various military sites in the Tartus and Hama provinces.

A military source said that the jets entered Syrian airspace via Lebanon’s capital city of Beirut, adding that the country’s air defences downed five missiles and scrambled the hostile jets, reported the Syrian Arab News Agency.

At least one person was killed and twelve others were injured during the attack, SANA reported citing hospital officials.

According to Sputnik, Israel is yet to comment on the airstrike.

Earlier, three Israeli missiles were intercepted by Syrian air defences after Israeli aircraft had launched an attack in Hama from Lebanese airspace.

On August 3, an Israeli drone was downed by the Syrian military in southwest Damascus.
