Hyderabad, April 04: Five members of a 13-member inter-state gang of dacoits which was involved in the attempt to rob a jewellery store at Medchal last month, were today arrested by the Cyberabad police.
Two firearms, 10 live rounds of ammunition, three knives and a motorcycle were recovered from them.
The arrested are Mohammed Arif alias Arif Khan, Mohd Shabuddin alias Moulvisaab, Mohd Farooq, Mohd Arif, all from Haryana and Mohammad Waheed Khan alias Laalu from Rajasthan.
Shabuddin is a teacher in a Madrasa at Moinabad area while Arif Khan was working as a JCB driver and living in Jhirra area of the city, police said.
In November last year, Arif Khan went to his native place where he came in contact with Shabuddin.
The duo planned to commit property offences in the city and Shabuddin shifted here and continued his job as a teacher in another madrasa.
Shabuddin also approached Farooq at his native place seeking his help and they formed a gand with Farooq’s brother Mohd Arif, and his friends Waheed, Shahed, Rafeeq, Mustaq, Bada Nadeem and Chota Nadeem.
In February 2011, Bada Nadeem provided the gang with four firearms and ammunition and the gang members were given shelter in Asif’s house at Gandimaisamma crossroads. Two others, Arshad and Naseem, also joined the gang.
In accordance with their plan, Arif Khan and others stole a Bolero jeep and a two-wheeler from Toli Chowki and kept it near a petrol filling station at Gandimaisamma crossroads.
The gang members initially tried to rob a jewellery store at Abids on March 11 but the security personnel forced them to flee. They disposed off their stolen car after this.
After conducting recee of Jai Hanuman jewellers at Medchal, the gang members reached there in another stolen Bolero on March 14 and tried to rob it but faced stiff resistance from the owners. They fired at them injuring one of them.
“The gang members later fled to Haryana and sold away the Bolero for `50,000 and shared the amount equally,” Cyberabad police commissioner Ch Dwarak Tirumala Rao said.
Later, the five returned the city and took shelter in Asif’s house at Gandimaisamma crossroads. Yesterday, Arif Khan and Waheed were nabbed at Medchal checkpost while moving on a two-wheeler and a pistol and knife recovered from them.
Subsequently, police raided Asif’s room and arrested Shabuddin, Farooq and Arif and recovered another country-made weapon and two knives, the CP said.
