Mexico City: A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the south of Mexico on Saturday, where officials were working to assess the scale of the damage, the Mexican seismic alert system reported.

The temblor occurred 123 kilometre to the southeast of Salina Cruz, which is located on Mexico’s southern Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca, Efe news reported.

It was yet unknown whether the latest earthquake had claimed any victims or damaged infrastructure.

It came four days after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake shook the country, claiming 292 lives.
