Dehra Dun, August 23: Forest officials have seized 4.3 kg of ivory worth Rs two lakh in the international market and arrested a person in this connection near Kashipur town of Udhamsingh Nagar district, official sources said here.
Yatendra Chauhan was arrested when forest department team following a tip-off, stopped him while he was on his way to Kashipur. On checking his bag, 4.3 kg of ivory was recovered. However, his accomplice Devendra Bist managed to flee from the scene.
On interrogation, Chauhan said they were going to Kashipur to sell the ivory.
Chauhan has been booked under Wildlife protection Act 1972.
