GUWAHATI: As many as 42 clerics issue fatwa against 16-year-old Nahid Afreen asking her not to perform in front of the people.
According to reports, the fatwa has been issued against her keeping in view an upcoming event that was to be held on March 25. Since the venue of the event was in the vicinity of a mosque and a graveyard, the clerics have announced to boycott her singing programmes and have asked her to stop performing in public.
Leaflets bearing the fatwa in Assamese by the 46 clerics were distributed on Tuesday informing the public about the decision to ban the young singer’s musical show.
The leaflets reads that the musical event scheduled at Udalit playground near Lanka town in Hojai district in central Assam on March 25 was “against the Sharia”.
“If anti-Sharia acts like musical nights are held on grounds surrounded by masjids, idgahs, madrassas and graveyards, our future generations will attract the wrath of Allah,” the fatwa read.
The Class 10 student Nahid also a runner-up in the 2015 season of a musical reality TV ‘Indian Idol Junior’was shocked when she first heard of the fatwa against her.

Nahid, who made her Bollywood singing debut for actress Sonakshi Sinha in the 2016 movie ‘Akira’, first rose to stardom after a successful stint on a reality singing show in the year 2015.
