Dongargarh(Chhattisgarh), May 07: Over 400 couples from different religions were today married in a community marriage ceremony under the Chief Minister ‘Kanya dan Yojana’ in Dongargarh city of the Rajnandgaon district.
The marriages took place in the Goddess Bamleshwari Devi temple in the city. The couples included Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and also Aadivasis. The marriages were performed according to their respective religions and social customs.
Chief Minister Raman Singh gave his blessings to the newly weds.
“This is a unique ceremony. These couples are getting married on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya under the blessings of Goddess Bamleshwari Devi,” Singh said.
Singh specially appreciated the fact that 81 couples were from the Naxal affected remote forest area of Manpur in Rajnandgaon district.
