Hyderabad, June 20: Defying the traffic police’s signal to them to stop their car, four youngsters followed chief minister K Rosaiah’s convoy by brandishing a gun at the police at Banjara Hills today.
When Rosaiah went to Star Hospital in Banjara Hills around 7.30 PM, traffic was stopped in all directions to give way for the chief minister’s convoy.
Soon after the convoy zipped past the junction, traffic policemen posted there were waiting for clearance from the policemen at the next junction to allow traffic to proceed. Meanwhile, four youngsters – Rohan, Abhishek, Rithwik and Shivek – travelling in a Toyota Corolla (AP 9 W 2300) became impatient and surged forward.
When Banjara Hills traffic SI Venkat Reddy tried to stop the car, the youths whipped out a gun and brandished it at him. The Sub-Insepctor then alerted the Banjara Hills police who stopped and seized the car and brought the youths to the police station for the questioning.
During the inquiry police came to know that it was a toy gun that they had brandished at the traffic police.
According to sources, the quartet are students of Gurunanak College of Engineering at Ibrahimpatnam and Geethanjali Degree College in Begumpet. They bought the toy gun at Sri Rama Fire Works.
Assistant Commissioner of police R Ravinder Reddy denied that the youngsters had obstructed the chief minister’s convoy.
“The incident took place after the convoy had left the junction. They told us that they stopped the vehicle when the police asked them to. But the police said the students did not stop and showed a gun which was a toy. During the preliminary investigation we found that the students did it unintentionally. We are yet to decide whether cases should be registered against them or not,” Reddy said.
