After which Mathur handed over a cheque to Santosh to encashed it, however police arrested him during the course of action. After being released from jail Santosh contacted Prasanth resident of Dadar and handed over a cheque of 3 lakhs to him. He encashed it successfully with the help of his friend Raju, who got 50000 for his work.

The modus operandi of the gang was that the gang collected the blank cheques through courier boys and lower level staff of companies by paying money and they also collected the signatures of authorised signatory. The gang chose the people who were in financial crisis and lured them with good commission on discounting of fake cheques. Whoever fell into their net would find other people who have bank accounts. They in-turn will lure account holder with commission if he agreed to get the cheque deposited for discounting. On his acceptance, they will deposit the cheque in his account and get it discounted on one or other pretext of purchasing of land or house. When the bank authorities send the cheque for realisation, the same will be dishonoured as a fake one.
