The 4-year-old, who was allegedly raped in the Ghansour town of Madhya Pradesh and shifted to Nagpur, continues to be critical. She has suffered severe brain injuries and is on life support. While one of the accused has been arrested, the Madhya Pradesh police have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on the main accused, who is still absconding.
In Bhopal, women Congress workers thronged the gates of the Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta’s residence demanding his resignation over rising crimes against women and children. After the bad press, the government tried some damage control. “The police have announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on the accused. In most such cases the accused are normally those who know the victim,” Gupta said.
While the police have arrested one Rakesh Chaudhary, the main accused. Police teams have fanned out to various parts of the state but there is still no concrete lead on the 35-year-old’s whereabouts. The child, meanwhile, continues to be critical having been put on life support.
