Berhampur: Four Philippines nationals were arrested by the marine police on charges of speaking over Thuraya Satellite phone at Arjipalli in Ganjam district of Odisha, police said.
The four who had come in a cargo vessel to Gopalpur Port to take black sands from Indian Rare Earths Ltd (IREL) were arrested yesterday on the basis of a report from the Coast Guard, Inspector In-Charge of Marine police station at Arjipalli, A K Parida said.
Coast Guard personnel came to know that the Philippine nationals were using Thuraya satellite phone, he said adding use of this satellite phone in Indian territory is prohibited and it violates the Indian Wireless Telegraph Rules.
The four were identified as Nathaniel A Faza (38), second officer, Librado P Jemina (37), chief officer, Eduardo S Gruspe (46), chief cook and Jescel B Bautista (34), a seaman, police said
Dubai-based satellite communications company, Thuraya has global customers which include industry leaders from a variety of sectors, including energy, media, marine, government and NGOs, police said.
