4 NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 24 hours

Kabul, December 16: A bomb blast has killed an Estonian soldier in Afghanistan, bringing to four the number of NATO troopers killed in the country’s southern battlefield in 24 hours.

The 19-year-old sergeant was killed Tuesday in an explosion after his unit was ambushed by militants in the Helmand province.

Another improvised-explosive device (IED) had killed a US soldier, while two British soldiers, together with two Afghan soldiers, were killed in a motorcycle suicide attack in the south of the country on Tuesday.

IEDs are the main killers of foreign soldiers in Afghanistan. At least 495 foreign troops have been killed in the war-torn country so far this year — including 305 Americans.
