4 injured in anti-encroachment drive

Chandigarh: Four persons including two home guard jawans were injured today during an anti-encroachment drive in Sirsa City in Haryana, police said.

Police said they were acting as per court orders to remove some encroachments from a ‘mohalla’ (residential area) in Sirsa City when they faced stiff resistance from those who were to be evicted.

“They first blocked roads at two places. We tried to persuade them to cooperate, but they did not listen. Soon afterwards they pelted stones at us resulting in injuries to two persons and two home guard jawans. A police bus was also damaged during stone pelting by the mob,” SHO, Sirsa City, Subhash Chander said.

He said the area SDM, Tehsildar and other officials of the district administration along with police force had reached the spot to carry out the court orders.

Chander said the situation was later brought under control.
